Weaknesses in the Nurture Hypotheses. Nurture says that stereotypes have a large effect on children's attitudes toward themselves, which is why they are so damaging. Do they? Did the expectations of the older ladies in "The Music Man" affect the little girls of the 60s? (Multiply by a thousand other examples - still not much effect.)

So, I read the 'smarter' article, and it seems that the authors have proven what was never in dispute: women on average are more risk-averse than men on average.
ReplyDeleteAs they should be. You can lose half the men in a tribe and bounce back quickly. You can't lose that many women. Also, even if surviving, women's reproduction can be thrown off by physical damage much more easily than men's. Ditto child-raising.
