The gnostic infections don't fit the pattern, though. <br />But O(400-500) there was a great debate (and split) about the nature of Jesus. <br />O(900-1100) there was a great debate and split over the nature of final authority in the church. <br />O(1500) there was a great debate and split over the nature of salvation. <br />And O(now) there's a great debate over the nature of man. It remains to be seen whether this will be one of the scisming debates--the factions that deny that man has a given nature seem to be both less fertile, and less popular in the new Christendom, so this may prove to be a local dispute that has no great bearing on history.
