I was surprised that there was any chance of rebuilding her after going to see what remained a month after the 2007 fire.
But the fire occurred in the course of a restoration where the ship had already been stripped almost to the hull. So most of it was off-site, leaving the iron frame of the hull and the 6-inch-thick planking of rock-elm below the waterline and teak above. Timbers of that size are surprisingly fire-resistant.
It's now almost fully wheelchair accessible.
