Canada Is Not For Sale

I saw a lot of T-shirts and hats with that emblazoned on them while I was in Quebec.  Well, I thought, the shirts are for sale. I don't think there is any real danger of Canada becoming the 51st state, or the 51st-63rd. However, my second thought was That's what Scotland said also. 1707, I think.

  1. A bitter but appropriate point. 1707 was essentially a sale brought on by a failed national investment. Canada has likewise made some very bad financial decisions that leave it vulnerable to absorption, if that were desired (which, hopefully, it is not; I'd take Alberta though).

  2. I don't think it's customary for the average subject to have a say in whether a country is up for sale or not. And I've heard a rumor or two suggesting that the sale has been ongoing, peicemeal, for a while, though not to the US.

  3. Well, maybe not Canada, but I bet we could get a couple of provinces dirt cheap.
